Tip: paste a list from a spreadsheet or document — each line becomes a segment.

Random Letter Picker
Spin the wheel for a random letter of the alphabet. Great for word games, name prompts, drawing challenges and classroom warm-ups.
One letter, chosen at random
A random letter picker is a small tool with a lot of uses. It gives you a single letter from A to Z, drawn fairly, with a spin everyone can watch. The default wheel holds the full alphabet; trim it to whatever set you need.
Ways to use it
- Word games. “Name a country starting with…”, categories, Scattergories-style rounds, Boggle warm-ups.
- Writing and art prompts. Draw something that starts with the letter, or write a sentence where every word begins with it.
- Classroom starters. Think of a word from this week’s topic beginning with the letter; line up in alphabetical order from a random start point.
- Naming things. Stuck on a name for a character, a pet, a team or a project? Let the letter give you a starting sound.
- Team assignments. Split a group by the first letter of their name, using the wheel to pick which letter-block goes first.
How to use it
- Spin the full A–Z wheel, or edit the list first.
- For a harder game, remove common letters (A, E, S, T) so players get trickier prompts.
- For a vowels/consonants round, keep only that set.
- Turn on Remove the winner after each spin to work through the alphabet without repeats.
Tips
Keep the wheel on screen during a game so the next spin is one click away. If you are alternating between letters and numbers, set up two browser tabs — one on this wheel and one on the random number generator — and switch between them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I include only consonants or only vowels?
Yes. The wheel is just a list of letters, so delete the ones you do not want. A vowels-only wheel is A, E, I, O, U.
How do I get a random two-letter combination?
Spin once, note the letter, then spin again. Or add pairs like "AB", "CD" as entries if you always want two at a time.
Does it favour any letter?
No. Every letter on the wheel is an equal segment with an equal chance. The default wheel has all 26 with no weighting.
