Spend the evening watching, not choosing

The average “what should we watch” conversation outlasts a short film. A movie night wheel caps it: put the options up, spin once, start the show.

The default wheel is genres — action, comedy, horror, sci-fi, documentary, animation and more. That is usually the right first step, because narrowing to a genre makes the title choice much smaller.

A two-spin method that works

1. Spin one — genre. Load the genre wheel and spin. Now you are only choosing within, say, comedy.
2. Spin two — title. Replace the entries with three or four specific comedies everyone would accept. Spin again. Done.

Other ways to set it up

• Shared watchlist. List everything on your “we’ll get to it” pile and let the wheel pick tonight’s.
• Fair turns. Each person adds two titles. Whatever wins, it was an equal shot for everyone.
• Series vs film. Two segments — “a movie” or “two episodes of a show” — to decide the format first.
• Rewatch or new. A quick yes or no spin: are we in the mood for a comfort rewatch or something new?

Tip

Keep a house rule that the wheel’s pick stands unless someone uses their one veto for the night. Without a veto rule, the wheel just becomes the start of a new argument.
