Tip: paste a list from a spreadsheet or document — each line becomes a segment.

Random Team Generator

Use the wheel to split a group into random teams. Spin to assign each person, or spin for which team goes first.

Two ways to use it

Split people into teams. Put every person’s name on the wheel. Turn on Remove the winner after each spin. Spin, and hand out results in rotation: first spin to Team 1, second to Team 2, third to Team 3, fourth back to Team 1. Keep going until the wheel is empty. You end up with random, evenly sized teams and a visible, arguable-with-nobody process.

Pick which team goes first. Keep the default wheel of “Team 1”, “Team 2”, “Team 3”, “Team 4” and spin once for order of play, kickoff, or presentation slot.

How to use it

  1. Decide which mode you want and edit the entries box to match — names, or team labels.
  2. For splitting people, switch on remove-winner so nobody is assigned twice.
  3. Spin and record each result. The Results tab keeps the full sequence.
  4. Use Copy share link to send the exact roster to a co-organiser.

Where it fits

  • PE and classroom activities — quick, fair groups with no captains picking last.
  • Workshops and offsites — break a room into discussion tables.
  • Game nights — 2v2, 3v3, or “who’s on whose side”.
  • Sports training — rotate drills groups without the same cliques every time.

Random teams are not always perfectly matched on skill, but they are fast, transparent, and they mix people up — which is usually the goal.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to make balanced teams?

Put your people list on the wheel, set the team count you need, and spin with "Remove the winner after each spin" on. Assign the first result to Team 1, the second to Team 2, and so on, looping back around. Everyone gets placed once and the sizes stay even.

Can I just pick which team goes first?

Yes. Keep the default "Team 1 / Team 2 / ..." wheel and spin once for turn order.

How do I avoid the same teams every week?

The draw is random each time, so teams naturally change. Clear the Results history between sessions if you want a clean slate.
